Jared is a 31-year resident of Boone, NC who married his high school sweetheart while they were both students at Appalachian State. They have 3 sons (18, 11, 8) and spend much of their spare time at football stadiums, soccer fields and gymnasiums supporting the boys. For fun he loves photography, attending live concerts & sporting events, and cooking on charcoal grills.
Jared is a 25+ year technology professional with a wide variety of experience across marketing and operational type roles. The last 10 years he’s been at Samaritan’s Purse where he was able to obtain the first Tableau Desktop license in the organization in 2012. The company has now grown to 40+ Desktop and 700+ Viewer licensees. Jared’s current role is in the IT Department where he serves as a Program Manager. He’s been able to attend 3 Tableau Conferences (Seattle, Las Vegas, New Orleans) and holds the Tableau Certified Desktop Specialist certification.
My presentation will be focused on how I’ve supported an initiative to use Tableau to represent Unreached People Groups (UPGs) visually on a map. Using data from the International Mission Board (IMB) that is made available via an ESRI ArcGIS Server Rest API endpoint I’ve been able to overlay a map with this external data from the IMB alongside Samaritan’s Purse data to allow our volunteer teams across the globe to have a more precise targeted list of UPGs in their geographic area of responsibility to include in annual ministry plans.
